As part of the project BRIO (Building Resilience in Indian Ocean), METEO FRANCE a carried out high spatial resolution climate projections in the southwestern Indian Ocean according to the main scenarios of socio-economic developments and adaptation and mitigation strategies (SSP)*. These data allow us to refine the long-term (2100) climate trends for our region as predicted by the global models. The simulations were carried out with the CM5 model of the French National Climate Research Center (CNRS). (CNRM).
Daily precipitation values are available at a 6x6 km grid over Reunion Island, for 3 scenarios: SSP 1
with
warming limited to 2°C, SSP 2 with warming limited to 3°C, and SSP 5 with warming. reaching 6°C.
The
temperature is simulated on some grids where reference stations are present.

- The SSP1 scenario (low adaptation challenge, low mitigation challenge), describes a world marked by strong international cooperation, giving priority to sustainable development
- The SSP2 scenario (medium adaptation challenge, medium mitigation challenge), describes a world characterized by the lawsuit current trends
- The SSP5 scenario (low adaptation challenge, high mitigation challenge) describes a world that focuses on a traditional and rapid development of developing countries, based on high consumption of energy and carbon-emitting technologies; rising living standards would increase the capacity of the of adaptation, particularly through the reduction of extreme poverty.
